CMST 2060: Public Speaking

Joe is a great teacher. Has a real passion for educating his students. He sometimes strays off topic of the class, but his intentions are good and effective. He has no filter, so if you are easily offended, I suggest you avoid taking Rhodes. His grading and exams are fair and relevant. He was my favorite teacher I've ever had at LSU.

he's such a great teacher! he's a vegan and had the best personality ever. every class was a hilarious group discussion about random things. grades were fair, the 2 exams are purely definitions/vocab. very chill and not too strict but make sure your 4 speeches don't go over/under the time limit!

Prof Whitehead is the easiest professor. She's not too good at getting assignments back to you with a grade on them, but she's super lenient and really wants you to do well. Easy A if you just follow her guidelines for the 4 speeches. Midterm and Final were take-home tests.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! She is AWFUL. As a person, she's really cool but as a teacher, she is like a Nazi. She is soo strict and she forgets that she is teaching a public speaking class instead of an english class. The midterm was ridiculous. other classes just had to answer a few questions, etc. We had to read a novel (Dante's Inferno) and write a 10-12 page research paper that was just ridiculous and then she reemed us on APA format and mechanical errors when grading. Don't know how the final will be, most likely a nightmare. She is a super harsh grader. Point is, don't take her. TAKE KATE WHITEHEAD OR DAVID TARVIN!

Derek was a really cool teacher, although can be quite corny. He's really passionate about public speaking and really gets into his student's speeches. He doesn't expect too much from speeches and his exams are very simple. I highly recommend him!

This class is soo easy. But his exams are tricky because he take some questions from the book which is not required.

The class taught good ways to be able to speak to an audience. Three speeches ? informative, demonstrative and persuasive ? and a midterm and final. Given free range on speeches and very helpful in calming down nerves and anxiety.

She's cool be prepared to work

3 speeches which are worth more than the midterm and final combined. Questions tricky on midterm and final but still had an A b/c of speeches. You can have flash cards does not expect speeches to be memorized!

Great teacher! I was intimidated by this class at first but Applin made everything relaxed and fun.

PAVICA SHELDON is Foreign and really petite & young & SOO FUNNY!! She reminds me of Jessica Simpson (cause she's a lil' ditzy at times) She grades speeches easily (too easily actually). VERY LAID BACK & EASY ! Take her notes seriously though 4 test!

You think it will be easy, but you are very wrong. She grades very particular on your speeches, and the midterm is pulled from all over... you have to go to class to turn in all of your writing assignments which are, once again, graded very harshly.

Go to class even when he says not madatory (gives bonus). Write down what he puts on the board or what he says is important. 4 speeches, a midterm, and a final. Very fair grader.

Danielle is really friendly and cares about her student's success. Her syllabus and expectations of each assignment are clearly detailed. The only downer is that speeches, which count for most of your grade, can take a lot of outside work.

joni was a nice lady, but she was so subjective with her grading on the speeches. for an easy A, i would try another professor

Ruffino is probably the best instructor for this class. Quizzes were stupidly easy. No surprises on the tests. Grades speeches leniently.

This guy has a serious "I'm smarter than you" complex! He LOVES to make this the hardest class you've ever taken. I ended up dropping just because I was FAILING speech! Ridiculous!

Grades easily on speeches, Don't go over time. Makes the class more difficult than it should be but is still a great teacher. What you learn from the class is much more than the grade you get.

Gershberg was really easy. His grading is based on the student's personal abilities so if you put effort into your speeches you can get an A. The mid-term was really easy, the final was much more difficult. Prepare and know your speeches!!!

Great class. Easy A if you are at all okay at public speaking.

Filble was really ice, talked on tangents alot which made the class really boring. Also, the material in itself is just so boring and worthless and very much just common sense. My motivation to go to this class was at 0%

Amy Fannin is really sweet and positive. She'll help you if you need and is merciful if she knows you tried. Class is super-easy but attendance is necessary.

Danielle was very nice and willing to work with anyone...grading was pretty easy...must study for mid-term and final...i did think that she graded speech performances unfairly and she was painfully boring and a terrible speaker herself!!

this teacher was absolutely terrible. She did NOT base our grades on the speeches but on the paperwork behind them such as outlines. She is completely unenthusiastic and should not be teaching a class that involves this type of feedback and support.

Great teacher that tried to make course material interesting.

Mike is an awesome teacher. Learned alot about politics and the world in this class, hes hilarious and jokes around alot so if you can't take a joke, you might not like him, but other than that....funny as hell!

Mike is a good teacher, he jokes a lot in class so if you're uncomfortable about being picked on "jokingly" then don't take him. He's easy and fair. I enjoyed his class.

My first teach had west nile so i got stuck with Lisa. She was cool, but deffinately picks favorites based on their ability to speak well even though the class is about developing public speaking skills. If you suck your going to get a B so go get um

Take CMST 2060..it's easy & actaully very fun. If you're going to take it then take Hartman. She is so nice & helpful. Great teacher!!!!!

Zac is one of my favorite teachers @ LSU. He's young and easy to relate to. The class requires a good bit of outside time to write your speeches, but he's really leniant on your topics. Tests a little difficult, but speeches count for most grades.

Good teacher, boring like any other speech class, but my section was an exception w/ other sec. bc we didn't have to do as much speaking as others. We had group project, not very hard and individual speaking in front of the class. Not bad

Karen Hartman teaches this class well. Friendly and gives room to improve. I improved my public speaking skills a good deal.

Her lectures are useless since her tests come from obscure questions made from the publisher...so don't even bother studying...takes 10 random attendances and doesn't really explain clearly what she wants. She is easy cuz of bonus & curves.

The Class is really informative and resourceful.....O seems REALLY DIFFICULT AT FIRST....but its easy to take your early D or C to an A...I did it....And always dress the part!

This is actually a very helpful class, it helped a lot, Lisa is a little hard to follow, she doesnt really teach and its almost impossible to get an A, she grades speeches very tough!

If you must take speech 2060, take Karen Hartman's section. She clearly defines her grading policy for speeches, and my communication skills definately improved.

Oli really tries to scare away people at first. Just wait it out a few weeks, you may hate her at first, but by the end of the semester you'll love her. She really wants you to do well. She offers many ways to earn extra credit and retake exams.

Not perfect but Gershberg was still great. Very funny and engaging, cares about what he's doing and with bonus, pretty easy to get good grade.

This guy hates his life. Harder than my upper level physics classes. I never missed class, but hs unwillingness to care made it difficult to learn. He enjoyed seeing people fail because he needs to feel above them. He likes being an ass hole.

One of the funniest.. coolest teachers you will ever have in college! Not easy to make an A but really easy to make a B... you will have a great time with him if you take his class and he will remember your name which is always good

Mike is THE MAN! He made me want to go to class everyday. I never missed a class! He encourages discussions before/during every class. Very approachable. GOOD GUY- TAKE HIM!

Mike was the best teacher I have had ever!!! He cares about his students and is AWESOME! He is sooo funny and makes class very intresting

Easy class w/ a hard teacher. Good teacher but definately harder than the others.

If you want an easy class...DO NOT TAKE HER. I spent more time working for her class than I did with my 4000 level courses. AN OBSCENE AMOUNT OF WORK!!

Treat curses alot...so if that bothers you... do not take him... he was a very good teacher though...he jokes around alot

Dr. B is ridiculuously hard. Yeah shes a nice woman but she makes the course much more difficult than necessary. Take any other teacher and its a great course. With her, its harder than any of my other classes--she doesn't like to give A's

Mike is THE funniest teacher EVER!!! He's great!! If you have to take this class, without a doubt take Mike Applin and you won't regret it!

WOW! this is such a hard class!!!! Im taking 18 hours and out of all my business classes, this is the hardest!....she seems nice at first but after the drop date she gets crazy! I also think she gets on here and writes good stuff about herself!

she is horrible!! she hates girls. she thinks she knows everything! you are always in the wrong! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! i was in theatre and thought it was going to be an easy a...man was i wrong!

Fun class. Taking notes with him can be VERY difficult. If your organized, you might have a tough time!

Jon was great! He was really cool and always let us out early. We talked him out of making us write the one essay for the class. There are four speeches, a final, and a midterm. .it was all very easy!

Wesley is a good teacher. Just make sure and do the speech outlines well because a large part of the grade is not so much delivery but rather mechanics.

Buerkle expects this to be your only class. WAY too much outside time for a speech class. Very rude, does not care about students.

Attendance is taken every class and your grade is dropped 5% for every class you miss after 4. Exams come directly from the textbook's website. Expect to read a nice 20 page chapter for every class period.

I was so nervous about public speaking...but Buerkle creates a comfortable environment!

I loved the class because i like public speaking. Treat was ok. I wouldn't recommend him, but you aren't set to die if you do get him.

Mr. Porter is by far one of the worst teachers i've had thus far. He isn't that mean of a person or anything, but his droning lectures will put you to sleep and he doesn't make the material seem relevant in any way.

The class is an easy A with any other teacher. This man is the ridiculous and will find any way to try and make you get bad grades, I don't think anyone got an A. DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN!!!!!!!!!!!

Treat is a good teacher and he knows what hes talking about. He teaches the class with a political twist, but if that doesn't bother you then take his class.

She's pretty good, worries about not enough time in class, pretty good grader.

Hunt is a great teacher, his class is a lot of fun. Do EXACTLY what he says on all assignments and memorize vocabulary for the 2 tests and you shoud get an A.

Dunn is craaaaazy! He was very hyper, funny, entertaining, and put us at ease. Class was a breeze!

Treat is a decent teacher who makes his student learn, but if you are already a timid speaker I WOULD NOT TAKE TREAT. In no way does he help you improve but he also grades ridiculously hard on the speeches. This teacher is not for beginner speakers.

Treat is a great guy!! A lot of extra time out of class preparing for speeches, but it's not too overwhelming. Take him!!

This instructor was unprofessional and he didn't give us a fair chance to EARN a decent grade.

Ms. Butcher was easy and lenient. Not a hard class at all. Definitely get her.

Lou might be the hardest professor to understand that I've had. No, he's not foreign, just wierd. He doesn't communicate objectives clearly. I thought I was gonna get a C, but oddly ended up with an A. Attendance is taken. Take another teacher.

She was great!!! Group projects took A LOT of out of class time, but other than that she was great!!!!

OK, Mrs Morgan is a little on the crazy side, a little to peppy for a morning class, but she tells you what she expects, gives alot of work-reading and stuff but if you must take public speaking you will learn something with her

She is the the best teacher ever and she is the head of the department. Everyone should take her because she is a wonderful teacher

Hunt's tests are KILLER..... no matter how much you study you will most likely fail them so hopefully you will do well on your speeches!

This was the best class I ever took and taking it with Dawn was the best choice I made. It is so easy and even if you're scared to speak she makes you feel really comfortable about it. Great class, great teacher, take it!!!

Mr. Hunt is a funny, good teacher. My only complaint is the grading of the speeches was extremely hard and the exams were somewhat irrevalent.

Shaun was awesome! Knew his material and gave a lot of bonus - you had to take initiative though!

She does give quizzes and writing assignment, but they aren't that bad.

Its obvious this asshole hates his life and every human being at LSU. He takes his aggression out on his students.EGO problem!

I reallly don't like speech, but Murdock was awesome. She's not very hard and she makes it interesting to to go to class. If you have to take a speech, take it with her.

Great guy. I would recommend this professor. Just have your speech prepared and read the book for the tests and you will do fine.
