BIOL 1209: Biology Laboratory for Science Majors II

This class sucks. No one cares about plants. This is basically just memorizing plants. For the final, you have to identify certain plants. It's not fun or interesting. Take pictures to study for the final.

Wischusen doesn't actually teach the 1209 course. That, unfortunately, went to a TA named Adriana Dantin. She doesn't know most of the material she "attempts" to teach (she said "Cnidarians" are worms). I would think that if you have a Bachelors degree in Biology, you would at least know the basic stuff taught in an introductory course. The lab is a waste of time, overall. It covers experiments without explaining their significance, and the practical part of the final is based on identifying few select samples from a very large pool that you have to view during the semester. No dissection (surprising for a college level course, as we dissected stuff back in high school), no creating our own experiments - it is shameful to call it a majors science course, and if they're looking to cut funds somewhere, this course should be eliminated, because it is completely pointless.

The class is easy. For the final, you have to be able to identify many different types of plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, etc. which can be tricky, but if you have a good TA, you'll be fine.

It all depends on the TA you get, I had Tracy Hmielowksi and she was awesome. The final is horrible, study a lot for that. Class is pretty boring though

Final was ridiculous... Had to know certain members of different kingdoms just by visual. With any lab, it's all about what TA you get.

Watch out for Erin Lawrence.... She's horrible.. Don't expect to get graded papers back or ever know what is coming on quizzes and exams.

Up until the last few weeks, the lab was fine, but it all depends on your TA.

Adam is AWESOME!!! if you can take him definitately do so!! he is so helpful and explains everything in detail!!!

This was an incredibly boring lab. Granted, I do not care about plants, ecology, or systematics. The lab exercises were virtually useless and my TA didn't even always have the information necessary for us to complete the lab.

This is by far the wost class I have ever taken. If Stephanie Gross is your TA, switch while you still can. Very ambiguos and goes back on what she says.

I'm grading my lab instructor Joel! The coolest lab instuctor ever! Grades easy..lets us out early. He isnt foreign so you def will not have trouble understanding! He was all around great! I got lucky! Hopefully, you'll get lucky and get him too.

the intro lab's at this university are ridiculous...total waste of time...but unfortunately most have to take it

Wei Wang is a cool guy, but impossible to understand. Helps you as much as he can, but class is "fall asleep no matter how loud the class is being" boring and final is rediculously hard.

The most pointless class at LSU. Be prepared to be bored. Make sure that you can understand your TA. Prepare for the final a lot. It is extremely difficult.

Good comprehensive scope of biology, however the amount of work you have to put in to get an A is entirely too much for a one hour course. Wayy too anal about the writing assignment and rough draft; grade suffers for trivial procedures

My TA was so much better this semester, but it's the luck of the draw. Topics would be more relevant if they coincided with material presented in BIOL 1202. Anyway, just try to get by like the rest of us did.

Cheryl Haines isn't exactly the best TA out there. Showed up late for lab as well as expected us to know what we were doing. Normally teaches upper level classes.

The Intro. Biology Program is awful. This course (1209) is somewhat better than the previous course (1208). The course is easy at first but once you hit the drop date, the harder material begins. The final was atrocious for this course.

Funny guy, bit quite a bit of a language barrier. Thats pretty much what makes him funny. Overall, not a bad instructor at all. Class is terrible, but thats not his fault. Take him

Adam is really interested in the material and teaches the lab well. Pretty interesting class.

HRINCEVICH is the best! He's funny and he knows his stuff. Take any class with him if possible.

1209 sucks.def study for the quizzes. the final's okay except you have to know what every organism looks like and be able to recognize it, its hard as hell. be prepared.

I am sure she is a nice person, but she talks for a whole hour before the experimentation, is extremely boring, and very difficult to understand. You must really teach yourself. She is fair though.

Don't take Denise D'Abundo...she is garbage! She's not prepared, scattered brain and she tries to make the class difficult...dude it's a lab!

take christopher gregg-he's really boring, but the class is easy the final is kinda tricky

Dr. Atom was da' bomb. He has a weird sense of humor (took me a while to get some of the jokes, but he is funny as as heck and smart as a whip! Likes his bonus opportunities too which I LOVED b/c it helped my grade tremendously!

The class was a pain at times, but Ben Hanelt will teach you a lot, and it's worth it in the end. Ben's very helpful and very enthusiastic. If you actually want to learn, take Ben!

Excellent Instructor, he made this boring class FUN! Definitely take him other any of the others!

Ms. Ann is one of the nicest teachers I have had at LSU. This class does require some work, but she is always willing to help.

Very helpful and intersting professor.

This is one of the most boring labs I've taken, none of the experiments really helped me for 1202 at all.

Poor communication and instruction, do not subject yourself to this TA.
