CHEM 1212: General Chemistry Labor atory

Pretty easy overall. The lab reports you have to write for each lab are a pain, but you get used to it. You have quizzes each lab so you probably need to look over the material a little before the lab. Some of the labs take 30 minutes but some take almost the whole time. The midterm was mostly calculations. They give you a review sheet to know what to look over. The final has a practical part and calculations. I don't think which instructor you take matters, because you get a TA that teaches the class anyways.

Whatever you do, do not take your lab through Linda Allen. Take it through Kolniak. Allen has her TAs under a spell and they make the class way harder than it needs to be. Avoid Allen at all costs.

Situma is terrible at leading this course. First she raised the grading scale by two points, then made the midterm and CUMULATIVE (including the pre-midterm material) final worth 30% of the grade each. The lab reports, which actually make up most of the work, are only worth 20%. The TAs have a set standard on grading, so if you get into a section with a TA who doesn't know all of the material (yes that actually happened - we had to show the TA how to solve a certain problem, and what the "left" and "right" equilibrium shift actually is), you're out of luck, because if your answers are not EXACTLY like what she has written down, that's points off. She is nice enough, but your experience with her depends only on what your TA is like, and she won't allow most grades to be disputed.

My TA was one of the better ones. The experiments are very straightforward and easy to complete. We never stayed the full 3 hours. Midterm - easy. Final - not so easy.

Have to write a lab report after every class, very time consuming. But with any lab, luck of the draw on whether a good or bad TA. I had a good one, and it was the easiest class I've taken.

My TA was Jon Dumke. He's very helpful and he makes Chemistry sound useful. The labs are long, and writing them up is a pain, but they're kind of interesting. Midterm is easy. The final is a practical and it's a killer though.

Easy lab though you have to attend each lab.

This is a very straight forward and easy to follow lab. Dr. Allen presents the material in a simplistic fashion. Quizzes are easy, there are no major lab reports, and the midterm/finals were a joke. Enjoy, light a peanut on fire, and relax.

This class depends on your TA. I had Nicole Bell and she was amazing and easy

My TA was awesome. Get Darine if you can. She isn't out to fail or even barely wants to give you a B. Will do everything to help you out. I messed around and didn't study for the final and it screwed me.

Kolniak is not the teacher, it's a TA. Michael Easson is great, not much more you can ask from a TA. Lots of writing but very easy. Midterm is easy, and final is practical/open notebook. Easy A

I forgot my teachers name. Some Chinese lady right off the boat, did not speak a word of English but she tried hard. Listening to her was like trying to understand a mime. Material and tests are easy, just follow the book and you'll be fine no absen!

I am grading the TA that I had Jung Kim Young....he was awesome. He not only helped me with Chem 1212 but helped me with my other chemistry class. I think it is just the luck of the draw with which TA you get.

My TA is Jackson from Nigeria. A very nice person, and very willing to help. He makes the class very fun and easy. All in all, however, the class is dependent on what TA you get. I had a great on, but one of my friends got a horrible one. Good luck!

Dr. Kolniak is a great professor; my only problem is with the TA, Brent Sellers. He sucks horribly. Very unfair on grading and is just a lame boring person. Worst ever.

TA runs the lab; My TA was great most of them speak English poorly; Exp. are easy...not much to it. Final's kinda tough

Make sure to read over the lab before class but the class is very easy and if you can't understand your TA, it's no big deal.

Dr. Powe-McNair was a great TA. She really took time out to help her lab students understand the experiments.

easy course, do well on the quizzes, midterm's a bitch, study, final's open notebook and easy, fun class, do some interesting stuff, be sure to get a good partner, sucks cuz its 3 hrs, 2x a week, but easy.

A somewhat fun lab. It all depends on the T.A. you get - hopefully one you can understand. The exams were not bad - open notebook Final - but the practical part is a bit nerve-wracking.

For the most part this lab was a waste of time. If you get an easy TA then it'll be a breaze but if you get stuck with a really anal TA it will suck

Dr. Allen is an awesome teacher, but it all depends on who you get as your T.A. If they're laid back and give you the answers, it can hurt you in the long run.

DO NOT TAKE Shannon W. I am an A student in biological sciences and this is the worst teacher i have come in contact with. Every other teacher from what i have witnessed in CHEM1212 is fair and approachable, but she is ridiculous and inconsiderate

easy and fun lab! quizzes at the beginning of every class are easy. the final is practical and easy as well.

THIS COURSE IT TAUGHT BY TAs, MY TA IS REALLY AWESOME. I HAVE NEVER SEEN DR ALLEN, HER GRADING SCALE IS NOT COOL. 89.99% IS STILL A B. SHE LOOK OVER OUR FINAL EXAM AFTER OUR TA GRADE IT, N SHE WILL MAKE U HAVE A LOWER GRADE, SHE'S NOT COOL!!!!!!

So easy and the experiments are actually fun.

This class is instructed by a TA. My TA was really sweet "Cara". The class is weighed heavily on 2 exams which really is not fair at all to me due to about 20 labs.

James Rucker was my lab teacher and he is the apsolute best teacher I have had so far at LSU. He makes lab fun and is a funny, nice guy. You will love taking this class with him!!

Allen doesnt teach the lab but her TAs are excellent and the quizzes and exams arent too hard as long as you go to class and do a little studying.

Well, it doesn't actually matter if you get Kolniak or not as he does NONE of the teaching. My TA was great, but you don't really get a choice there either. Easy class, minimal studying required.

It was really taught by a grad. assisst. who was great! Arington, K she's very helpful.

This class is a gamble, and dependent on your Lab assistant. If u get a good one, them u are lucky, else be prepared for hell..You'll get tired of the experiments sooner or later, however if you're lucky to have good LA, then u'll probably do well..

Dr. Allen should be avoided at all costs. She is not interested in anything but herself and enjoys steping on students whenever possible.

It all depends on your TA. Mine was garbage. Class is a bloddy joke because one TA could care less and the next is an evil apathetic slob. If you see that your TA is one of these, switch immediately or drop the course.

Freaking joke of a class. If you get a good T.A. it will be a breeze.

This class is easy, no homework only class participation. Dr. K is the best.

I wouldn't take it unless it's required for your major.
