Professor Paskoff was a great teacher. The material is what it is. History. It can be as dull as ever or very interesting, it's how you take it as a student. I enjoy history, so I loved the class. 4-5 pages of handwritten notes a class, three exams, reading's required but I didn't read a page and made a high B in the class.

Dotson is really cool. If you have to take this class, take him. Most of his notes are already on noteswap. Tests are all essay, and there are 3 books to read. But overall this class wasn't too bad. Definitely take Dotson though.

if you know anything about history and actually like it, DONT take this guy. hes super pumped on all the insignificant parts of american history. lectures and course material is very hard to follow and understand. however, he gives you all of the essays and IDs that will be on the test so an A is very obtainable if youre willing to study hard and take the time to piece the material together yourself. not a fun class by any means

I only attended this class like 5 times and I got an A easily. He tells you the possible essay topics. Just make sure you know a lot of info about those topics. Tests are all essay but if you know what you're writing about, you should get an A.

I loved Paskoff. Very nice during office hours. A little boring, but really tries to make class interesting. TA is fair grader and really helpful. Tests are 5 out of 8 IDs and an essay or two. Test reviews are daunting at first but get easier. Not an easy A though

Dr. Rob is awesome and soooo funny! He makes you read 3 books which are not that interesting. The TA grades the tests which are all essay. So the grading is subjective, but you can go to Rob and talk to him and he may change the grade.

Mark Thompson is extremely moody; unless you want to be embarrassed in front of 200 people in Lockett, I recommend being on time. He is obviously very intelligent, and enjoys the course material, but fails to translate that knowledge into effective teaching. You will take pages and pages of lecture notes, and find that the vast majority of them are useless. Five or six 250 word homeworks, 2 exams, both essay and identification. The second exam has twice the work, but in the same amount of time. He is a tough grader. My advice: take Outland.

Dotson was awesome. I really enjoyed this class. The test were short answers with one essay. the short answers Qs were pretty easy and the essay was one of 3 given to you beforehand. Just read over your notes and make outlines for the essays and you'll be fine. I made a C on the first test and above 95 on the next two after learning how the test were.

I don't like history but if I did I would have paid attention in class instead of sit on facebook. Doesn't use moodle so you must pick up your tests to know your grades. Great teacher overall and easy class. An hour or two of studying gets you an A.

If you have to take American History, Outland is the way to go. Tests are a little hard (short answer and essay) and there is a good bit of reading, but overall, I would recommend Outland and HIST 2055 (if you must take history).

Dotson has 2 test and a final. Test has about 15-20 short answer Qs and one essay. He gives you 3 possible essays and one is on the test, one is changed. Final is just a 3 test with an extra essay. Test questions are pretty easy, imo

Great teacher. Lectures are fairly interesting and its clear what will be on the test. Tests are somewhat hard because they're so short so each question is worth about 10 points. not a lot of room for error.

The quizzes were pretty difficult but there were only 2 and he curved them. Thompson is pretty strict about class, he gets mad if a lot of people are late, He gave out the essays and ID's for tests ahead of time.

Definately take him. He gave the essay questions and Id's for the midterm, and the final was take home or in class. The 2 quizes were curved 10-15 pts. Participation is 8% and there's 6 Hw's. Only reading necessary is to answer HW questions.

Do not take this man! He was very short and impatient with all his students. Not helpfula and he skipped around some much, that taking notes was almost impossilbe. HARD test and TA grades very hard.

Becker knows what he's talking about and he's interesting... I just am not particularly wild about history. His tests were a little tough if you didn't have the old ones or didn't totally understand what he was asking, but he knows his subject well.

Becker is the best lecturer at LSU - there's some outside reading, but gerneally it's interesting. His tests are fair, but not simple and dumbed down. Becker's classes have been, by far, the most enjoyable ones I've taken.
