LATN 1001: Elementary Latin

Mrs. Craig is a wonderful Christian lady and teacher-so sweet and helpful. She is a great teacher as well; you really learn the language down to the specifics. However, she's no pushover on homework; expect a lot of assignments. Definitely do them, though. It's the only way you'll really nail the grammar and specifics of the language. She expects a lot out of you, but in return she really teaches you the language. There was a lot of outside time involved, but if you plan on taking more Latin, you'll be thankful you had Mrs. Craig. The quizzes and the exams were rigorous, but pretty easy to get through if you did your work. Definitely take Mrs. Craig if LSU keeps her as a Latin teacher!! It's a crying shame she was one of the Foreign Language Fourteen, but she's teaching a class in the fall.

Professor Watanabe is great teacher. He is always willing to help you in his office hours and goes over exactly what will be on the quiz and exams with you the day before. However, do not skip class. His lectures are pretty important as you cover readings, vocabulary, and he will help you ace the department exams. There is a lot of vocabulary which in my opinion was the hardest part about the class. Also you basically analyze words and determine their gender, tense, person, function, etc. This is for all Latin1001 classes so be prepared to do that. It is very possible to make an A course but it is not an easy give me A. You do have to work for it.

Good teacher. I dont like that she calls on people to translate, but a lot of teachers do that. Latin is easy and is mostly memorization. There are quizzes and tests. I ended up not going to class except for the quizzes and tests and was fine. Just translate the story and study vocab and you should be okay. Craig is cool, and will go out of her way to help you.

Great teacher..go to class she likes that..and do your hw..one time i ended up waking up late and missed my quiz..she let me make it up because i never missed a day of class.

Craig is nice and wants you to learn the material. Even though its a dead language, it is not an easy language to learn! I am an A/B student and I dropped this class to save my GPA. Stay far far far away from latin! Take any language but latin!
