Dr. Schafer really cares about his students, and is very passionate about what he teaches. He teaches the material well, even if you don't agree with some of his viewpoints. Tests are not difficult, and there are 2 short papers to write.

Class was pretty disorganized, but interesting nonetheless. Schafer is a cool guy who makes it more interesting, but you have to pay attention and do the reading because the tests are not so easy.

One of the best teachers I've had at LSU. Schafer cares about you and your grade and does his best to make the class/material interesting. Participation in class is required though, so be prepared!

Good teacher, hides his bias well, is able to teach objectively. Many of the questions on his exams are prepared by his TA's though, and those are often not covered in class.

Yes, Schafer is a big liberal and has been especially agitated lately due to current conditions in Iraq, so he had a little more attitude this semester, but overall, you will learn a lot, he is a good guy. His 3 classes were the best I took at LSU.

This course will take a lot of your time outside of class. The latter half of the course is a massive class project on which you will spend at least 3 days a week working. Too much work, not a whole lot of benefit. Take his 4047 class instead.

Dr. Schafer is absolutely the best professor I have had at LSU. He cares 100% about his students and has a great knowledge of what he teaches. He presents both sides, and I am conservative and still enjoyed hearing his opinions.

Good professor who makes you think outside the box about issues. The class will stretch your preceptions and you'll disagree sometimes, but you'll be a better person for it. Reading the NYT and class participation is required.
