THOMPSON M (HIST)

Mark Thompson is extremely moody; unless you want to be embarrassed in front of 200 people in Lockett, I recommend being on time. He is obviously very intelligent, and enjoys the course material, but fails to translate that knowledge into effective teaching. You will take pages and pages of lecture notes, and find that the vast majority of them are useless. Five or six 250 word homeworks, 2 exams, both essay and identification. The second exam has twice the work, but in the same amount of time. He is a tough grader. My advice: take Outland.

Thompson was great! Easy A! He has a midterm and final and that's it. All essay test that are graded super easy. Homework once every other week. Lectures are interesting! He makes history fun!

Thompson is not really all that difficult, but he is just annoying. He is rude, keeps you late, never grades anything, and basically is convinced his class is the only class at LSU. BUT, you don't really have to go to class to pass!

The quizzes were pretty difficult but there were only 2 and he curved them. Thompson is pretty strict about class, he gets mad if a lot of people are late, He gave out the essays and ID's for tests ahead of time.

Too much busy work in this class. Quizzes were hard, but he does curve. Lectures sometimes hard to follow...or maybe I was just always tired. And don't piss him off...he calls out someone just about every class.

he makes horrible attempts at humor but he fails miserably. he is not very organized. dont show up late or he will actually make a big deal out of it. hes not very clear on what kind of material to study for quizzes.treats u like 4000 level

Good course, interesting if you like basic history. All essay style tests so know the story. Easy to make an A. Thompson got mad at me because I wrote him a crooked e mail, but in the end I got an A. He looks like Wheres-Waldo but likes rap music??

I thought this class was gonna suck, but it was excellent. Thompson is a fantastic teacher and he really cares about his students. Make an effort- go to class, participate, ask questions, etc- and it pays off. I totally recommend him as a teacher!

Dr. Thompson was very entertaining-the class is interesting and relevant. Only one test though-other grades come from papers, debates, and a project.

Thompson is the wost teacher. He is young and thinks everyone is trying to disrespect him. The class is ok but the teacher is not

Better be able to write like Shakespeare if you want an A on the midterm or final, i made 95s on scantron tests and 77 on essay midterm

Lectures are fairly entertaining, but Thompson is very arrogant and not the easiest man to get along with. The 2 essay tests are very subjective.

Best 2055 teacher. A little outside the class work but overall great class

Um,this class pretty much sucked, i got an "A" but that's only because i figured out that he just wanted you to state every single fact that you recall from lecture in his ESSAY tests.DO the homeworkParticipate in discussion.fulldays of uneeded notes

Take him, I never went to class and made an A, the last final was a take-home final, easiest History class i've had at LSU.

This class will make you crazy! His tests are essay but he gives a study guide so its not that bad. Just dont expect him to post grades anytime and when it comes to the final grade--Wait at least a week and a half till you check your grade!

I don't think he gives anyone an A, so if you crave disappointment, take him.

read read read, homework assignments, dont expect to get your graded work back bc he doesnt grade it, kinda nerdy but plays music, gives study guide with essay questions(very helpful)

thompson does not care about students. neither he nor assistant made themselves available for students. i waited outside of the TA's office (during his hours) for 30 minutes. NO ONE showed up!

Definately take him. He gave the essay questions and Id's for the midterm, and the final was take home or in class. The 2 quizes were curved 10-15 pts. Participation is 8% and there's 6 Hw's. Only reading necessary is to answer HW questions.

There is only a midterm and final, but as long as you have a general idea of what you are talking about you will do fine. The homeworks are a big part of this class.

The class probably would have been interesting, but Thompson was just an awful teacher....plus he was a real asshole...didn't care about the students or what they thought...and most of the time had to be corrected for being WRONG!!!!

Only take Thompson if you cant find another instructor. His tests and homework are crazy, and you dont get much from his lectures. Not any student-teacher help either. Do yourself a favor and find another class.

He gives tons of homework, hates questions, uses little visual material, and generally sucks at lecturing, mostly just paced back and forth mumbling things. Tests and homework are all essay and graded for grammar very strictly..
