BYRD L (SPAN)

To start off, what you've heard about the Spanish department at LSU is true: It's horrible! Byrd tried her best to work with us following the poorly designed syllabus, but this class was still major FAIL. I am a 3.5+ student, and under different circumstances, I would've aced the class for sure. I would advise you guys to just take French instead as I've heard that it's a lot better than this department. I had to argue with Byrd at the beginning of the semester for 1 point because the syllabus quiz was an atrocity and so poorly worded. Every single thing in this class is important to your grade. The exams expect you to remember every minute detail. We're taking this course as an elective... we're not trying to learn Spanish to move to Mexico. Geez!

The tests are easy, but the quizzes are hard. The quizzes are on the lecture readings, which you have to do at home. Sometimes doing the questions on the side helps, but you can't always get a 10/10 unless you frickin' memorize it. Try to get into one of the later classes; that way the people from the previous class will tell you what's on the quiz. The tests are mostly grammar, so if you can ace the tests, then you'll be okay. The oral part isn't that bad. Byrd will give you a lot of practice before the exams, so just study her study guides and memorize the conjugations. She doesn't really teach you much. She won't sit down and go over the conjugations, and she wasn't very clear when teaching subjunctive. That's why you have to read the material to understand it. She sends helpful handouts though. There's no curve. I got a 91% in the end, and I was ranked 5/83. I don't think more than 10 people got As.

If you absolutely dread Spanish, the course won't be that great for you. However, I found that Ms. Byrd is very sweet and helpful and wants the class as a whole to learn. A lot of people had trouble with this class, but the material really isn't that bad. Studying is a must.

Lidia Byrd is a crazy lady.She takes everything personally & thinks that the class is out to get her.She spends five minutes checking homework everyday and then goes over it as if she's teaching something but she doesn't teach at all!!! QUE HORIBLE

The class itself isn't too bad. Sra. Bryd was super nice but she was difficult to understand sometimes.

Sra. Byrd is wonderful!! She really cares about students and is really hilarious. The class is very fast pace but you can earn 8 hours if you get atleast a C.

The thing about Spanish is that everything is departmental, so whoever you have, it's tough. However, she goes out of her way to make sure you are doing well and understanding the material. She is really sweet & I definitely recommend her.

Mrs. Byrd may scare you on the first day by not speaking any english, but it isn't as bad as it seems. Do good on vocab tests because grammar tests will kick your butt. I've heard other teachers are easier, but she really wasn't too bad.

If you have to take this take Byrd. She grades as easy as she can and is extremely nice.

If you have to take Spanish, \\get Sra. Byrd. This was my second time taking 2101, and the first time i ended up dropping because my TA couldn't teach at all, then in my second time, Sra. Byrd made it so much easier. She really cares about students

Professor Byrd is very nice and is willing to help. Do your homework and it will really pay off. She gets quiz questions from the homework. Spanish is no joke, don't take this course unless required.

She is wonderful! I wouldn't necessarily recommend Spanish 2101 - but if you have to take it, take Lidia Byrd! She really cares about her students, she's funny, and not too hard of a grader! I loved her!

Lydia Byrd is HORRIBLE! She goes over material for 5 minutes and says, "Give me a sentence like this one." She walks around and checks homework every day like we're in middle school. She repeats again and again, "If you don't care, I don't care!"

Mrs. Byrd, I believe, assigned far too much outside work. It sometimes seemed as though she relied on the students to teach themselves.

Sra. Byrd is very nice. She is funny and makes the material easy to learn. I definitely recommend her to anyone having to take 2102.

A very nice lady, but a horrible teacher. She grades easily, but be prepared to teach yourself the material.

Ms. Byrd is a good teacher. She will help you out with grades if you regularly attend. But do not take this class unless you have to.

She explained everything really well. A very good teacher for students taking their first year of Spainish. She is very compassionate.

Certainly a nice woman, but she could not always control the class, and her instruction was a bit convuluted.

She is not very willing to help students who have absolutely no Spanish background. There is absolutely no speaking English, which is understandable, but how does she expect you to learn Spanish when you don't know what it means in English?

She's not very organized or structured about her teaching and lectures, yet explains test materials ok; easy!
