EDWARDS J (ANTH)

This was quite possibly the worst class I have ever taken. Edwards is terrible at communicating with his students. He told us that he was going to give us roughly a 10 point curve, but later stated that it was "already added" to the Moodle site. If you study for countless hours you can still end up with a C or D. I don't know anyone who did well in this class. Don't take it, especially as an elective. It's a GPA killer. Take anthropology with another professor. Edwards will make your life a living hell.

He gives 3 exams and then a final. The lowest exam score is dropped. Before every exam a study guide is posted. Going to class and taking notes is an excellent idea for this course. He lists outside reading books as a necessary part of class. This isn't true. It would be better if you saved your money and time by not reading or buying the books. He goes over everything in class. Going to class is helpful because only 90% of material is covered in his power points which he posts on moodle. If you don't want to go, you can probably get a B.

hmmm... I really didn't do well in this course... didn't understand what we were learning.... he tells students to read other cultural books from Africa, Australia, etc... which is pretty hard.

Edwards is simply a joke. The material of Anth 1003 would be a lot more engaging and interesting provided Edwards is not your prof. Edwards' lectures were simply a ridiculous number of powerpoint slides -- so hard to stay awake in class, esp. at 9 am. He doesn't care if you understand the material, only if he gets the info out. The tests were created and graded by the TA. The TA basically ran the class. Speaking of the tests, they were extremely difficult, and we never got the grades input on moodle. The entire class went into the final without knowing their average OR the grade on the last "quiz." Also, don't try to get in touch with the TA -- it's near impossible, and when you can, he'll be a jerk to you. Overall, very unpleasant class with lots of work outside of class. I remember studying for hours and hours to get "C"s. My suggestion is to take anth with another prof, if you need it. If you're considering it as an elective, DON'T TAKE IT unless you adore anthropology. Stay clear of Edwards -- he was more unprofessional than some of the grad students I've had for teachers.

Edwards was a really nice guy, but his exams were really hard, and his class was boring. All he did was read off his powerpoints, but to get a good grade, you had to study powerpoints, textbook, and outside books. His curve does help, though.

DO NOT TAKE EDWARDS!! There are better and easier teachers out there. He only gives 3 "quizzes" which are impossible to study for because the notes from class are completely disorganized. He never posts grades. I went into the final guessing my grade

Jay edwards test are aweful!! HOURS of studying for Ds and Fs.

Great class. Edwards is fun and makes the class interesting. Really down to earth and in touch with the students. The tests weren't overly hard and the material was easy to understand.

I don't know why people say this is a horrible class. The tests are really easy if you study his powerpoints. You don't even really have to go to all the classes. He has his own grading scale and curves A LOT. There's absolutely no homework.

Dr. Edwards showed great disrespect for women and did not evaluate fairly based on lectures, assigned readings, etc. He also lost my assignment and penalized me for it. I would strongly recommend this course, but NOT with Edwards.

Edwards zips through material, and has no interest in how you are having trouble keeping up, Tests consist of such a wide vast of material that studying is very, very difficult. He's happy as long as he gets the info out, not on you learning it.

Prof. Edwards is an excellent teacher!, he was very friendly and the overall class is interesting, plus you don't have to read all the books cuz he'll explain it all in the class anyways, definetly take him!

This class is very boring!!! I fell asleep everytime I went into class. If I was working on something else for another class, I still fell asleep! Take someone else if possible.

I just didn't like Edwards. The class and the material is interesting, but when he talks you just zone out. He's boring.

Interesting class - you learn a lot! You have to read outside novels and the text! Great personality so you wont fall asleep!

Horrible class. It was so boring. I was a tenth of a point a way from a B, and he wouldn't let me do anything to bring it up. Don't take this teacher or class.

3 words: Shrunken Human Head. Yes my friends, Edwards actaully brought a REAL shrunken human head to class. Hair and all. Very odd, very rude, and very hard.

What he said would be on the exams was not on them and most of the things he said would not be on the exams were on them.

horrible teacher. you have to read 4 books outside of class plus a textbook too. Have 3 impossible exams. Grading is extremely unfair and you dont know your grade until it is submited on paws for your final. Dont do it lectures are long/boring

J Edwards is a funny, often pervertive man. The class is interesting, but he is very disorganized and his test questions come from no where! Also, the study guide he includes is from years before, and none of it is on any of the tests!

The class itself wouldn't be so bad if so much reading wasn't required (3-4 books plus text), but Dr. Edwards lectures are totally disjointed. He changes topic w/o warning &is very difficult to follow. Test are way too hard for 1000 level course.

The class is very interesting if you like learning about strange customs of other people. Edwards is a bit of a random lecturer, but he prepares you well for the tests. He gives you everything you need to do well.

This is a very intersting class that doesn't require too much work; it is good for an elective.

The material is fascinating, it gives you a new perspective on human behavior.

Edwards has a sporadic teaching style that is pure torture. I really don't think anyone is pleased with his class.
