Katy Provenzale is an excellent instructor. She's passionate about her job and really wants you to learn the material. The class isn't a hard class if you stay on top of your homework; she makes you turn all of it in every quiz day for a homework grade, and doing two weeks of homework at 2 am the night before a quiz is not pleasant. It adds up really quickly. Her cultural activities were also a little tedious. The class breakdown when I took it was 6 or 7 quizzes, a midterm, a written and oral final, two cultural activities, participation, and a collective homework grade. The oral is pretty hard (reading comprehension and then hold a conversation with her in Italian for about 5 minutes) but she grades really leniently. Making an A is a breeze if you put a little bit of effort every week staying on top of the material. One warning, though: she gets slightly emotionally attached to the idea of prompt attendance. Don't be late, and don't miss a lot of classes unless you can score consistent mid to high A's on all of the quizzes.
