Class wasn't easy but I wouldn't consider too difficult either if you keep up. Newman doesn't have quizzes, just exams, so you don't have to go to class but if you want a good grade you should. Some exams he was good about giving back, others not so much, so when it came time for the final I was left wondering what I had done wrong in the past since I wasn't able to make corrections.

Prof. Newman was a nice guy, interesting stories. The lectures themselves were sometimes slow and to do well you really need to focus on the book, workbook, and online reviews (test questions come from these sources). In our honors section the tests were 30 multiple choice worth 60 points and a "short answer." This consisted of a graph that needed to be labeled, manipulated, derived, etc. worth 40 points. Doesn't round up grades.

Instructor was elusive and very hard to contact by email. If you happen to have class when he has office hours, you will be very lost. TA grades exams and grades the graphing section on the exam very, very, picky. Curves grades slightly at the end of the semester but intimidates enough people to drop the course by saying the average of a 65 for the first exam is "good".

Newm made class interesting for a 730 class. Even if u know the material, study more. Tests are departmentalized since he's the chairman of econ.

GREAT professor!! Comes off a little dry at first but warms up quickly. His tests are NOT departmental so what you learn in class is whats on the test.

I am so glad I got Newman as a teacher. The class was interesting and he explained everything really well even if there were a few times I thought it could have been explained better. To be fair, though, I do like ECON and thought it was easy.

Exams are very open to professor interpretation. I had similar answers to another person in my class and he got at A, I got a C. Did not learn what I expected to in this class.
