CULBERT D (HIST)

Dr. Culbert is an awesome professor! At first, he can seem a bit intimidating due to his "dry" personality and sense of humor, but he is very enjoyable once you get to know him. 7956 was the best of the three reading seminars (7951, 7952, and 7956), and the variety of readings went beyond typical histeriography. Only caveats: be prepared to write a 3-5 page paper each week and lead a discussion once alone and twice with the other classmates. Still, it's a fun ride.

I really liked this class a lot but I know others didn't. Dr. Culbert can be off-putting but he knows a lot and is always available outside of class. You really have to read the books & write the essays. The exams are divided; he gives an essay to write at home and then short ID's and short essay during the exam time. Hard to take notes though, he tends to jump around on topics, but write down what he puts on the board, it will be a short ID

Culbert was the MOST boring teacher I've had at LSU but he's very easy. I had a very strong A the entire semester but the final consisted of VERY minor terms from the readings so I finished with a B.

Easy class....I enjoyed it.

TAKE CULBERT. eventhough all his exams are essay, he tells you the question before so you can prepare

Dr. Culbert is a very interesting man, with a dry sense of humor. He is a great lecturer and FAIR teacher. I got a 70 on the first test then 99's on the other 2. Final is worth 50%! Take him!

Dr. Culbert's lectures were dull but as long as you read the books then the test are very easy. Pretty easy A (IF YOU READ THE BOOKS!!!)

Culbert was the most boring teacher I have ever had in my whole entire life. History doesn't necessarily have to be boring. DO NOT TAKE CULBERT!

Dr. Culbert is a great professor. He is very straightforward and gives you more than enough information to prepare for the test. On the first day of class he told us the essay question of our first test. It doesn't get any better than that!!!!

Dr. Culbert is a good teacher. He is very knowlegeable, but I don't like the fact that the emphasis of the class is novels, not a history text.

i made an A, B+ and B and he didnt give me the A even though i had extra credit

If you can, get the old tests from someone else. You never have to go to class. It has been the same exact essays for the last 7 years.

his lectures are kind of dull but he's a fair grader and a caring man who attempts humor but doesn't always find it!

BORING!!!!!!!! His tests are very easy though, if you can stand sitting through his lectures!

He's a little dull at times, but his exams are absolute cake-- you don't even have to use complete sentences.

Dr. Culbert is an intelligent man. (He was a professor at yale) His jokes may be too high brow for some, but if you can understand them you will smile during the whole class. great teacher. be sure you like to read! very interesting material!

Culbert is a little tough to follow, but he wants his students to get good grades and he tries to make it clear what he wants to see on his exams

Dr. Culbert is somewhat interesting, but can put you to sleep. His two essay tests aren't too bad.

Take the course but don't take Culbert. His disrespect caused me to drop and take it over with someone else.

Easy but boring. Not necessary to go to class. Just read the books and go to the review session.

90% of the test is the books you have to read, and they are pretty good, the teacher's lectures are interesting but not imperative to passing the class
