MARCHAND S (HIST)

HIST 7908 is one of the only courses all history graduate students (regardless of subject) area take; therefore, the variety of readings varies in terms of quality and subject. In that regard, if one likes every single reading, then the class fails. Dr. Marchand is rather nice, but at times, could be vague with assignments and expectations (especially the last assignment of the course). Almost always starts with "The Return of Martin Guerre," an interesting book.

Prof Marchand is not a bad teacher. Her T.A. who grades the tests is horrible. The essay is so hard to get an A on and if you have one thing wrong in the timeline, most of it is wrong. I would highly recommend avoiding this class/teacher if at all possible.

Susan Marchand has the lungs of a WHALE. I could count on two things after each class - a cramped hand and a numbed brain. If you are a feminist or just -love- the reneissance then this is your class, if not - run for the hills.

Dr. Marchand is an interesting teacher, but the material is very hard. Don't take the class unless you've had previous European history classes. She is a very good teacher though.

In thsi class there are 3 really boring long novels assigned. Her lectures were hard to follow but she gave a study guide so you could look up the answers in the book. She knows what's she talking about.

Dr. Marchand talks WAY to fast. She gives a massive amount of notes in a very short amount of time. If you can keep up with her, you are doing good. Gives a study guide with all the possible questions on the test.

She is very boring and her tests cover way too much information. I hate this teacher!!

Marchand is a good, but not very excited (or exciting) teacher. You might fall asleep, but if you can stay awake, she's good and the class isn't too hard.

Marchand talks way to fast. She has no personality so it is hard to pay attention. Plus there is way to much reading for this one class. If you take her be ready to read and to study!

Dr Marchand made the material interesting, but she talks fast so bring a tape recorder.

There is no texts, so you have to make sure you get all of the notes in class. You have to read books and excerpts outside of class and those are included in the tests.
