Shimizu's gone a bit off the deep end over the years it seems. Much nicer and more reasonable with grading during the second year compared to the first.

Shimizu sensei is a wonderful person and is quite funny @ times, but her grading system was VERY DIFFICULT! On the various quizzes and tests, if you miss just one character in a word, the entire sentence is wrong! I loved learning about the Japanese language, but Shimizu sensei was very strict and hard grader. I suggest you take her if you REALLY want to learn Japanese and give it much needed time it requires to study!

Japanese is fun if taught by the right person. Kaori Shimizu is not one. She practices favoritism, is prejudiced against students, has an extremely linear course structure with no room for questions, and expects perfection but gives no time to do so.

I love the Japanese language, but the way attendance is taken (which can negatively affect your grade) sucks.

When I sign up to take her class, I lost everything that was fun in my life. All Shimizu does is give you mountain of works. There is no break and you have to do everything by yourself because she doesn't provide you with any help.

This class and this woman bring back bad memories for me. Shimizo was not a good teacher at all. She picks favorites and she makes the class super hard in that it is impossible to make a good grade.

What an evil woman. I mean, who gives a test on the day before a holiday, the day when you come back from a holiday, or the first week of school. This class was a horrendous experience for me.

The amount of work that this woman gives you is ridiculous. You never get a break. Every single days, you have homeworks and quizzes. Even on the weekends and holidays, she gives like a bunch of reading to do or 100+ vocabularies to learn.

Horrendous teacher. She makes it impossible to make a good grade. I study at least 20 hours per week for this class and barely made a "C" in the class.

She is a pathetic excuse for a teacher. She doesn't teach you anything so you have to learn everything from the book. On top of that, she gives you like 2 minutes to write fifty sentences in japanese and the tests are like 15 pages long.

This is the worst class that I've ever taken before and she is the worst teacher that I ever had in my life. She doesn't make any attempt to help you whenever you have a question and she enjoys seeing students fail.

If you take this woman, get ready to teach yourself the materials. She go over the lectures very quickly and doesn't give you time to copy. Also, whenever you ask her a question, she tell you to look it up in the book.

If you take this class, get really to dedicate your life to japanese. She gives you tons of homework and quizzes. Also, be prepared to spend 90-100 hours studying for each tests.

This woman is a very mean, rude, and heartless person. She often makes fun of you when you say something or when you ask a question. I feel like I'm wasting my money when I take her class.

This woman is a nightmare. She gives you ton of homework and quizzes everyday. The written and oral exams were super hard. Also, she doesn't give you any help so you pretty much have to teach yourself the materials.

She was one of the worst teacher that I have ever taken before. She go over the slides very fast and doesn't give you time to come. The tests and quizzes were completely different from the notes and you never know how the homework is graded.

Shimizu was very hard to understand. She doesn't explain things very clearly and she doesn't allow to ask questions. Exam questions were very random and the oral performance were extremely difficult.

The class is interesting if you are serious about learning Japanese. Shimizu is interesting, but extremely difficult to please, especially on writing assignments. I dropped this class because I had to ignore other classes just to scrape a C.

This class is really enjoyable if you are serious about taking Japanese. It's a lot of work either way, but if you enjoy the language, it makes it a lot easier.
