BLAKLEY C (PHIL)

Mr. Blakley is an extremely strict, heartless person. On the first day of class he informed us that he would be recording all conversations in his office to avoid legal entanglements. He assigns a lot of homework and grades all of it harshly. The tests are difficult.He intentionally gave me half a point off my extra credit so I would get a D instead of a C, because I didn't do enough homework and missed some class, and he resented that. STAY AWAY.

Dude is tough. Interesting stuff. If you like philosophy take it. Otherwise, find something else.

Blakley is one of the best teachers I've had at LSU!! this class totally rocks. it seriously makes you think about how you view the world. his tests are essay but you can bring an outline. i made the outline the night before each test and got a 98 in the class.

Far and away the most interesting class I've ever taken. Blakley is a great guy and will help you through the papers. He grades really tough, so do not take unless you have excellent writing skills. To put his grading into perspective, in our class of roughly 25 people, I am pretty sure I was the only A he gave out. But he is always available to help and he makes the classroom feel like a discussion amongst friends. On that note, do not take if you are shy. You get a grade on how much you speak in class. You will love this class. Just choose an ethical theory you like and argue that point consistently throughout the semester. If you participate with fallacy-free and substantive arguments, while being able to write effective papers with no logic issues, then you will be fine.

Not a bad class, Blakely is just overly difficult with the grading scale.

Blakely makes a lot of jokes and is a really down to earth teacher, but he takes his job really seriously. If you want an easy A, he tells you on the first day it won't be one. The first test is kind of difficult, and the only other grades you will have are quizzes and two papers. You watch a lot of movies and its a fun class.

Philosophy is such an interesting class and Blakely taught it very well. Exams are all essay, but they were all take-home, and they weren't too bad, and he was more than willing to help out.

6 open books quizzes, 1 basic logic test, 2 papers. class is pretty easy, see him about your paper to see what you're missing. hes a great guy and teacher!

really nice guy; RETARDED class. NOT an easy A with Blakley. worked my ASS off, and i have a 4.0! teaches little material in class, expected to learn everything else on your own then regurgitate an entire chapter into a bluebook. 8 TESTS, ALL ESSAY

Philosophy totally warps your mind and makes you think you don't even exist. It's crazy. Blakely's course is pretty difficult. Short answer tests almost every week. Memorize the notes word for word for every test and you'll get an A.

The most important thing for this class is... GOING TO CLASS. If you get A's on all the pop quizzes it helps yor grade a lot. If you have an A or B you dont have to take final. Test are short answr/essay so study. not an easy A but not impossible

The class can seem hard at first but it gets easier. I had to study a lot for his tests but I got A's on all of them.

VERY nice teacher. Gives pop quizes though so read. He allows you to drop some at the end and in my class you didn't have to take the final if you had an A or a B.

just be prepared to study, exams are short answer, but the teacher is really nice and very willing to help students.

I honestly don't understand how someone could say this class is hard. If you are able to think abstractly and/or read textbooks, you will do fine. The material is very interesting and thought provoking, for the most part.

an ability to totally redefine the terms discussed is necessary for success in Blakley's class.

He's pretty cool & gives a lot of bonus opportunities (I was able to pull my grade up dramatically after bombing the first test). However, he's really hard and mainly uses Powerpoint. Study HARD if you have take him!!!

Blakley is horrible!! Do not take him!! You think you know the information and then he fails you!!!

Blakley is a great instructor with a sense of humour. He doesnt give you grades, you earn them, but he gives you ample information on how to do that.

Fun Class. Lectures were kind of dry at times, but never hard and he really tried to encourage class discussion. Only downer was it was early.

Chris is great. Class is very informative & he's a cool teacher. Lots of outside reading. Study & do review questions in groups. It helps a lot.

He was a pretty good teacher. If you're looking for an easy class, he's not the best one to get. Tests are detailed and thoroughly comprehensive. He was really cool and entertaining though. There were quite a few quizzes.

Chris is passionate, but he grades so hard. He digs way too deep for a 1000 level class. LOTS OF READING

Blakley makes boring material interesting. The class is boring but an easy A.

Fun class, great guy, but don't miss alot of classes bc 0's on his quizes can hurt you.

Blakley is a bit boring, but overall a down-to-earth teacher with realistic expectations of the class. Very fair and concerned with student learning.

The coolest teacher I've had here. Tried to make class fun because it is boring.
