The material is necessary to know if you're going to work in the field. Raman should no longer be allowed to teach. Grading is completely at his discretion. 5 identical copies of homework received 5 different grades. His book, that he wrote, is awful and cites wikipedia as a reference. His MEI method has no industrial use. I'm embarrassed to say that I had this man as a professor.
You can't avoid Raman, use this as a warning. He doesn't read the project blue books. Write gibberish and he'll give you full credit. The man is awful and is the definition of lowered teaching standards in the ME department at LSU.

Avoid Raman if you can. Impossible to follow in class and the book is terrible. Fill in the blank/essay tests with no idea whats going to be on them. Slight curve at the end.

Raman was very difficult to understand. He doesn't talk loud enough and you have to get use to his accent. Quizzes were hard and test were alright. Be ready to do alot of outside reading on your own.

Hard to hear and pay attention. Read text book for quizes and if you can pay attention you hardly have to study.
