Foster's class, as was most of my second year experience in history, was far better than most of the first year. He cares deeply about student learning and success; however, the course material in 7904 was rather dry at times. Still, Dean Foster made up for most of the shortcomings, and so I recommend it (and him, of course).

Took over the summer. Teacher is great! Take lots of notes and do not miss class. Three books to read but gives questions to you before tests! Three tests: short answers, book questions, and an essay. Interesting!!

This is the best history teacher I've ever had. Go to his office hours he gives great outlines for the essays. Take Foster if you take this class.

He is THE BEST teacher, interesting, sweet, caring. But his test didnt reflect to me what I had learned in the class. I learned tons but when I took the test I made C's., this was very upsetting to me. TA grades the tests. Teacher is awesome.

Foster is a good guy, class is interesting, but his test formats are tough to get used to. Don't read the novels, just get answers to sample questions & you'll be okay.

He is so approachable, very knowledgable, and his tests are very fair. He reviews all the grades his TA gives, which is rare in a Professor. He is always willing to meet with students outside of class as well. TAKE HIST 2055, AND TAKE FOSTER!

Mr. Foster was an excellent teacher!! He is so funny and makes history easy to understand. The tests are challenging, but if you show effort, even if you fail a test, he'll give you the grade he thinks you deserve. Hes wonderful!

good professor BUT this class is very challenging. No matter what prof., the class is full essay(3 page essay answers expected) be prepared for many all nighters!

Foster cares, he's intelligent and fun, but it's impossible to take good notes - he hardly ever writes anything down and throws an impossible amount of information at you in class - good luck trying to figure out what's important and what's not!

Foster was a horrible professor, the worst history prof that I have had so far, and I've had 3 other history classes. He mumbles and he makes a class that could be interesting VERY BORING. His class is all about regurgitation not acutally learning.

Super teacher, very knowledgeable and makes the class enjoyable! Highly recommended! Tests=soo hard, so study a lot, but in the end, all the effort you put in is really worth it because the material is very interesting.

dropped the class b/c i just didn't have enough time. 5 books to read! way too much outside time required. if you are in love with history, go for it. if not, take someone else. NOT remotely close to being easy. vague test preparation, too.

Of course, it did require some work and studying, but I don't usually like history and I really enjoyed the class and learned a lot. Tests are also very fair, you just have to actually study and you'll be fine.
