VELDMAN M (HIST)

Yes, this class will require a good portion of your time BUT the course content is very fair. Professor Veldman knows that the course requires you to put in a lot of work. However, she also gives you -many- extra-credit opportunities to compensate. I have never taken a class that gave so many bonus point opportunities. I even missed out on a quiz, which took 35 points from my grade, made a B average on all of my tests, and still came out with an A because of the bonus. Beware of the book and reading assignments, though, because they require a significant amount of your time. Overall, good professor, okay course, and ample time required.

Dr. Veldman is a wonderful professor. You will learn so much in this semester. This course requires you to read for each class, but the book is very well-written, and Dr. Veldman provides a reading/study guide for each chapter. The exams were essay, just like all history exams are, and the prompts were all interesting and easy to understand. Don't take this section, however, if you are looking for an easy A. You will have to put work into it, but it's worth it.

BONUS.....the class is somewhat difficult, but Veldman gives numerous easyyy bonus opportunities. I got 71 bonus points and did average on exams and quizzes. Veldman is great.

This is NOT an "easy A" class. All exams are essay. Quizzes are computer based. Plenty of opportunities for extra credit though. You're basically going to end up reading the entire book throughout the semester because of the quizzes. LOTS OF STUDYING

the computer exams are hard unless you read very carefully...you basically have to read the entire book throughout the semester. there are lots of extra credit opportunities, but you have to have time. all tests are essay but graded pretty fairly.

Veldman is tough, but she really knows her stuff and does a great job of getting students to love the stuff as much as she does. The exams aren't bad at all, it's the quizzes that are bad. Read the book & go to class and you'll atleast get a B.

Veldman is a great teacher who knows her stuff. History can be a boring class to take, but Dr. Veldman makes this class very interesting to where you will learn a great deal. Her exams are essay but if you attend class reguaraly, you should do well.

Lots and lots of studying, computer quizes outside of class, and notes. However, she offers loads of bonus opportunities and study sessions. Very interesting class, great teacher, great grad assistants, but be prepared for a lot of work.

This class was my hardest class of the semester but was extremely interesting and as long as you put enough effort into the class an A is attainable.

I never liked history, but Veldman makes it so interesting. I loved her class. She knows her history. She wrote the textbook. Her tests are all essay so be prepared. Going to class should be all the studying you need to do.

Veldman was awesome! She gave so much extra credit, I never made an A on a test, but I only needed a 36% on the final for an A in the class!

Extremely boring. way too much notetaking. she gives extra credit, but tests are almost always graded incorrectly or dishonestly - very aggravating. miss 1 class and your screwed. I would not recommend Veldman or this class.

Great Techer, you will learn alot. Be prepared to relate historical events to today's civilization.

Essay tests with an I.D. section for bonus. 3 exams, not cummulative. Gives extra credit opportunities. Recommended if you like history. Takes attendence for extra credit. TAs grade. Veldman knows her stuff.

Veldman is an OK teacher....the class is pretty boring. You'll have to take a lot of notes. Tests are essay, along with map quizzes to take. Not a horrible class, but not my best. She wrote the book. Enough said.

Very very interesting class. Veldman is a great teacher!! The discussions are fun. There are 3 papers to write and an essay final.

Veldman is not very friendly or respectful but she is a good teacher. She makes the material more interesting and the textbook is very helpful. Two papers are that weren't too bad. Fair grader.

you take LOTS of notes in this class and EVERY test is full of essays..get ready to write and make sure you read the book all the way through..

Professor Veldman is an outstanding lecturer and teacher. If you attend her lecturers you will be prepared to take her exams. She gives you sample essay questions to prepare for her exams. Know the answers to those questions and you will do great.

Veldman is an extremely smart teacher, but she expects us to soak the information as fast as she gives it. Be prepared to take approx. 6+ pages of notes a day and to do two papers, watch a movie outside of class, and take irrevalent exams.

Dr. Veldman was an excellent teacher. Her lectures were organized and well put together. She gave a ton of notes though. Her lectures were so good that I did not have to do much studying for the essay exams. Wish I could take her again.

Veldman was a good prof. The only problem I had with this class was that she didnt grade the papers, the poor TA had to do it all and he was overwhelmed. I had to go back more than once to get my test corrected bc it was graded wrong

Veldman can sometimes come across wrong but she means well. She's a strict, tough teacher but you'll get a suprisingly great amount of knowledge and understanding from her teachings, tests, and extra work,which isn't much.

very nice teacher but do her study guides. her exams come straight out of it. memorize dates...they are bonus on her exams

Lectures weren't interesting which made it hard to study for later...

Prof Veldman is a great teacher! She explains everything very well. Class requires LOTS of note taking, but you learn a lot. I recomend this teacher 100%
