KATO N (BIOL)

Kato is the worst teacher I've ever had in my entire life. I've got a 4.0, and I've never written a review on a teacher before, but I felt I had to. We spend the entire class learning almost nothing, literally, and he makes you sit in groups like you're five years old and discuss things. Each day, we wasted the whole class on 20 minutes of lecture material. Thankfully I took biochem before this class, because the tests are hard. I heard Hart is also terrible, which is a failure of LSU. If you can get Dimario, though I don't think he teaches it anymore.

This is not your typical Cell Biology class where you have to do a lot of memorizing like Biochemistry. Dr. Kato focuses more on these data analysis things that he goes over in class and tells you you have to understand it to "get grade A". I didn't find his accent too hard to understand, but maybe it's because I'm asian. He doesnt have set office hours so it's a bit hard to go see him. Overall, you don't need the book, just study his data analysis examples for the short answer portion of the test (60%) and the summary slides, red text, and bolded stuff from his powerpoints for the multiple choice portion (40%). We had 30% A's this semester, so pretty easy to get an A.

Kato's powerpoints are disorganized, and he often updates them right before class. His heavy accent and disorganized notes make him hard to follow in class. He's not good at teaching in front of the class, so make sure you stay after class and ask him to re-explain slides. His disorganized notes makes studying for his tests (which progressively get harder) a nightmare. Plus, his tests often ask numbers (diameter of DNA, etc). On the other hand, he is a pretty chill guy.

cool teacher, heavy accent. does his best to make class fun by showing animations & involving students. this class is pretty student driven.

You will NOT understand him, really NOT one word! He makes alot of mistakes on test and you only have a week to earn back the points. He was the WORST BIOLOGY IVE EVER HAD!! The only good thing is he gives lots of bonus points!! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!

This class stinks. The information and reading can seem overwhelming. Kato is almost impossible to understand, but his grading is probably easier than other professors teaching this class.
