I actually took this course in Spring 2011. Dr. Stickle is very well suited for the course and enthusiastic about the material. However, he can go on tangents about past students or colleagues that are hard to sit through in a 9 AM class. He makes it very easy for you to get an A in the class as long as you follow through on his assignments (Powerpoint and term paper on the same subject). Tests are straighforward and he provides sample exams; he also posts all his lecture slides on Moodle.

So I took Stickle's winter intersession class and I highly recommend taking this class then and with him! He's a nice guy but does go off on tangents. The tangents are usually entertaining though because they are about sports, his life stories (usually involving sports) or his opinions on random things. His main goal in this class is for you to understand physiology so you can make the best medical decisions for yourself and not just blindly follow what doctors say. Also, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking HUMAN ANATOMY (Kin 2500 w/ Landin) AND MICROBIOLOGY (Biol 1011 w/ Gada) before taking this class!!! It will make your life sooo much easier. I'm not saying that the class will be a piece of cake (it is a lot of material) but you will have a huge advantage over other people who haven't taken these classes. Lots of vocabulary words are thrown out at you in this class. I'm able to follow him because I've already learned them in those classes but people who haven't get lost a lot. It's just how the class is, it's not Stickle. Also comparing my experience with my friends who have taken Thompson, I feel like I am having a much better time in this class than they did. I would recommend taking this class with Stickle. I enjoy it!!!

If you're a COMD major, physiology is going to be difficult no matter what. Make sure to take it with Stickle though, you'll be sure to pass. The lady during the semester tells COMD majors that she will fail them at the beginning of the semester. At least with Stickle, you have a shot.

Good class. Stickle is cool. Easy... EASY Upper level biology. He gave us a ridiculous amount of bonus and never expected us to go to class.
