Great if you like history and really want to learn. Royster knows a lot but I had to keep myself from falling asleep. notes online on noteswap under the reconstruction (4056). 2 essay exams- know ALL notes

Royster's class isn't too bad, although he isn't very lively. I think he has some health issues, so that may be a contributing factor. However, he is quite brilliant, and sometimes he gets a bit carried away with how much he knows, to the point where it is almost impossible to keep up with him. He gives a midterm and a final, and requires that you read two books alongside the textbooks. Best part of this class: he lets you out at least 30 minutes early every. single. class.

Dr Royster is one of the best history teachers at LSU, if not the best. I believe he retired now, but his HIST4055 Civil War and this class were the best classes I have ever taken at LSU and I feel priveledged to have him as my teacher
