TA's are pretty rough on grading essays. You have to turn in an essay on every exam day. Exams are multiple choice with date/event matching. Exams easy, essays difficult because of the grading. Essays are the worst part. Overall, course interesting and I would take it for an elective.

This class was interesting; however, the required reading is rather time consuming. I really liked the professor!

You must read the books and write the essays or you will not get a good grade. I was late with the first essay and ended up failing the first exam. Missed a B in the class by half a point. My own fault. I didn't go to class, all the notes are on noteswap.com, nor did I read the textbook but got A's on the multiple choice parts of the exam. So not a bad class altogether.

LONG is a great teacher. going to class is not necessary if you can get the notes from online or a friend. The tests are 100 points each. 50 points essay due on the day of test and 50 points multiple choice and timeline. Focus on main dates from the back of the text book and you should do fine.

This is an interesting course, but a lot of reading! Long was a good teacher also, but its hard to like someone when they assign so much reading. This class is also a discussion class as oppposed to a lecture class.
