Great course. The tests were a little tricky but overall Dr. Galvez did an excellent job of presenting the course material.

Review #2 / Course: BIOL 4160 / Instructor: GALVEZ F
This course had so much potential, and was ruined by the incompetence of this jackass of an instructor. In spite of being a native English speaker, he slurred together almost everything he said, and mispronounced anything with more than two syllables. He spent excessive amounts of time on irrelevant/esoteric points (particularly those relating to his research: the riveting, high-paced world of fish metabolism) while spending little time on key concepts. He wrote tests that were excessively complicated (instead of true/false, he gave true/sometimes true/false questions). Repeatedly tried to use the tenure hearing he had this semester as an excuse for his incompetence and his inability to string words together into a cogent sentence. If LSU wants to attract more students nationally, the administration should stop bragging about the *size* of their Biology department and start trying to weed out incompetent buffoons like Galvez so that they can actually brag about the *quality* of the department.

Review #3 / Course: BIOL 4160 / Instructor: GALVEZ F
this class was hard, and the tests were pretty tough. so, it took a lot of extra work. compare to neuro or some other 4000 level class. they are all a little time consuming if you want an a. that said, it totally prepared me for the mcat. galvez teaches stuff that is thought to be need to know info for pre med students. all of his test info is directly from the notes or assigned readings, so there are no surprises on exam day. but a bit of a warning - most of the questions are ones that make you know the concepts, so dont just memorize things. you will probably not do too well. after getting a c on teh first exam, a couple of us that studied together would just go and ask him questions at his office when we werent sure of things. he will get up at a white board and draw it out for you in his lab and keep talking and talking and talking and talking (he talks a lot) until you understand it. Hes a really nice guy and probably could care less if everyone got a's.

Review #4 / Course: BIOL 4160 / Instructor: GALVEZ F
Overall, I enjoyed this class - it was informative and applicable to medical professions. Galvez is personable and available for help. However, he often has trouble conveying his point but his study guides are a huge help. Great guy, great class.
