It's a class about rocks. That should be enough. If you have to take it, I would check out other instructors

I listened in class, read the assigned material, did the "study guides" and example questions and was very confident that i would do well on the tests....i was wrong; the tests are confusing, and tricky. DO NOT take this teacher!!!!!!!!!

Tomkin is a nice guy, but this class is ridiculous for a 1001 level. probably the most miserable class I have had in 3 years. tests are designed to trick the student. Reading the text book will barely get you a C. Avoid this class at all costs.

Teacher ignores student's questions, thinks class is full of geology majors only, very immature when things do not go his way. Get ready to devote all of your time to making a "C". Gives very tricky tests. Do NOT take this teacher!

Makes a 1001 class like a 2000 level class; the tests are rediculous

Study guides, super easy quizes given almost daily to boost your grade, tests are a little hard, you can make A by just attending class everyday, book only necessary for concepts not understood in class.

This guy really likes geology but he teaches the class like 1001 is a 3000 level class. The tests are impossible and not from the notes i do NOT recommend this teacher he i way too hard for a 1001 class.

This guy is great! Geology isn't the most interesting of subjects, but through his power point lectures and class activities, Tomkin makes it as fun as possible. PS Don't come in late, after awhile, he starts to look a little irked.

J. Tomkin is a great teacher for Geology 1001. He makes it as funny and interesting as it can be.

Dr. Tomkin can be funny, but the class is just so boring. Take something besides geology for your science sequence.

These tests were impossible! I knew everything on the review and could never make above a B. He's a good teacher but tests are way too hard.

Very funny man with Australian accent, but you can clearly understand him. Go to class take notes, you'll be fine. Book not necessary.

Tomkin is a nice guy and he cracks stupid jokes to make you laugh. It's powerpoint lectures, so be there everyday and take notes. Read the book if you need extra help, but otherwise you dont need it. You HAVE to study and KNOW the material.

He is really excited about teaching geology and makes you want to learn! Tests aren't that bad just study hard! Overall he makes class fun!

He's AUSTRALIAN so he's great!!!! his accent is so funny and he makes jokes about america/australia.....he does have a doctorate so his tests are difficult, but if you read the book and study the notes, a B is definite, A very likely =)

His tests are hard. You can tell he lives and breathes Geology, he is enthusiastic but he goes off about things that don't pertain to a 1000-level course. Prepare to hear a full 1 1/2 hour lecture.

His tests are killer. Tests are multiple choice, but had lots of trick questions. He does not review before tests.
