ENGL 2027 with Prof. Osbey was interesting, but not necessarily in a good way. In the end the pros barely outweigh the cons, so it's a toss up on taking a chance with her.
PROS: In our 3 hour, once a week class, we never stayed longer than 2 hours.
- No tests
- No quizzes
- Allowed revisions to one paper to be regraded.
CONS: Attendance is mandatory. You failed with more than 3 excused/unexcused absences.
- She talks A LOT! Be prepared to spend most of the time just sitting there for 2 hours while she goes on and on.
- Material from lecture doesn't translate to course assignments. We had to write 3 papers, One 5-10 page and Two 8-10 page. Lectures focused more on the history behind the poet and poem. Papers focused on analyzing poetry and literary devices.
- Had to attend 3 outside-of-class poetry events. By and large it was up to the students to figure out where/when these events would be held.
- Doesn't respond well to emails. Twice I emailed her to confirm my attendance and another time to clarify something. Neither time did I receive a reply.
- THIS IS THE BIG ONE! Going into finals week, we had not received a single grade on any of our assignments. On our last day of class, I was shocked to hear that we would not be getting our grades on previous papers. In my opinion, this is VERY disrespectful to students. In fact, I was even more angered by how she described herself sitting on her front porch drinking root beer while all of her students were being tortured writing their papers. Not a funny joke in my opinion.
Those are the pros/cons. It's up to you if you want to take a chance.
