Dr. Wharton is a very nice man, and this is an easy way to pick up honors hours. The lectures don't matter. The tests come from quizzes which come from the homework. If you can teach yourself chemistry and do your homework you'll be fine.

Wharton's a funny guy. Teaches by doing problems on the board. Reading the book does help. Quizzes are easy, once you know the format. Tests are like he took questions from the quiz (different questions) and stuck them on a longer piece of paper.

Wharton isn't great at getting things across clearly, but if you listen well enough, eventually you will understand what the stuff is about. His quizzes and tests require studying but are for the most part fairly simple.

Dr. Wharton is sometimes so smart his explanations are tough to follow if you're not a chem whiz - but he's a great guy who isn't our to give difficult/impossible tests or quizzes and lets you drop a couple of low scores.
