MARTINS L (SPAN)

I absolutely LOVED this class. I'm doing my final semester right now, and I must say that throughout my four years of college, I haven't found a class that compares to this one. Laura was absolutely amazing! The class was very interesting, very educational and very enjoyable. I learned so much. She truly loves her students and is always available to help if there is a problem, or if you don't understand something. In Laura's classes no one needs to be afraid of making mistakes or slipping up... she will always help you with any errors you make in a way that will never embarrass you. She encourages her students to participate and just have fun while learning things that literally take you to another world and back how interesting they are. Laura is an A+ Professor... a Professor that I will remember even 30 years after graduating. The content was challenging in parts, but the challenges were ALWAYS fun. I really loved looking at the paintings, listening to the music she would bring, and watching the short films she would make us watch... all of which were related to what we learned in class. This was not a class that made you focus only on memorizing what was in the book, this was a class that made you think outside of the box, and apply real life experiences, music, the arts etc. etc. , to poetry and essay writing. I would recommend this class to everyone. I've recommended Laura to almost every Spanish student I know. If you take her you won't regret it!! Another plus is that Laura has good taste in music and sometimes you she'll give her students a treat... She'll play a relaxing song or two in the background to relax you while you take a test or an exam. Truly an amazing class, and an amazing professor!

I made some errors in my previous review so I decided to rewrite it! I didn't double check before I saved it. Spanish 3010 with Professor Martins was a breath of fresh air! Laura made the class fun, interesting and very interactive. The class focused on grammar and Composition. What I liked most about this class was how Laura taught. She is the type of Professor that every student would love. Most students would not believe that a Professor who is so dedicated to her students and their learning could exist. I came into this class having many problems with grammar and the use of certain tenses. Fortunately, I left the class understanding everything I did not know before I took it. I even came out of it with an A! I went to Spain the semester after taking this course, and I must say that without Laura's help, the assignments she gave, and just taking her class on a whole, I would not have been able to survive in Spain. I would recommend Laura to anyone that wants to enjoy learning!

Disclaimer: I did not take THIS particular course with Laura. I took Spanish 4201 (which is a Spanish/Latin American cinema class) in spring 2003, but that course is not listed on this website. My ratings are for that specific course. Having said that, I would recommend Laura Martins 100% - without a doubt. Her course challenged me and broadened my horizons/worldview, which I was not expecting when I signed up for it. Her grading was fair and her comments were always helpful. I always felt I got back what I put into every assignment (meaning, if I took my time and turned in a well researched/written paper, I always made an A, but if I "half-assed" it, I always got a lower grade). I felt she took the time to answer, on an individual basis if necessary, any questions that were raised. She was a very approachable teacher. I can't recommend her enough.

Martins was amazing. She takes the time to review your tests with you and to give advice to make improvements. I would take ANY class that Martins teaches simply because she is one of the best professors that I have ever had. You do have to go to class, she gets mad when you don't go to class or when you go to class unprepared.

Laura is AWESOME! She is so encouraging! Even if I received a bad grade on something, she made me feel good about myself. I wish all professors were as great as Laura!

Okay class. Martins is nice and fun, and you don't really do much in class, but she grades kinda hard. Boring material-mostly grammar and writing compositions. Go to class and speak up in there; participation counts.
